My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Three

12 July 2024 Blog Post 224 Pigeons

Been a good week and no more cat vomit since Monday. Jack seems like his old self. Has been nibbling at the grass a bit on our walks but hopefully it won’t cause as bad a projectile vomit as Monday. The boys have been enjoying watching the pigeons in the early morn. Now that I have the feeders up (3!) for the squirrels on the fence, the pigeons and other birds such as jackdaws and magpies have been visiting a lot! I am spending a lot buying big bags of mixed nuts for them. I also buy duck food for the ducks, moorhens and grebes at the nature reserve me and boyfriend visit every weekend! I have been researching online what they can eat so I am making them a mix of tinned veg, lentils, oats, mealworms (gross!) and seeds for their treats. I checked about squirrel food as well and I am feeding them the correct mix of peanuts, sunflower seeds and corn. Anyway, as the pigeons are getting used to flying into my garden whenever they want and sitting on the squirrel feeders and munching the seeds, they get impatient in the early morning when me and the boys are in the garden. They know that the boys will chase them if they try to land anywhere or go for the feeders. Charlie especially likes to run across the garden and jump up at them if they sit on the fence and Jack likes to run to them. Thankfully neither Charlie or Jack has tried to scale the fence like Leo did. Surprisingly Leo does not try to go up the fence after the pigeons. I think he finds them boring, like we all do. They are really irritating as they don’t give up pestering us. They fly off when Charlie runs at them. Then 20 minutes later they are sat on the roof again watching us. There was one stupid pigeon this morning who tried three times to get to the feeder while we were all stood not far from it. I told the stupid bird to sod off while we are outside and it will just have to be patient and wait till we go back inside so it eat in peace. Mind you, the big wood pigeons are very territorial of the feeders and they attack the smaller pigeons who land on them. I saw them pecking each yesterday while trying to get to the food. Stupid things. Still I have got Sammy coming every day for his nuts. Sometimes it is 2 squirrels and occasionally 3! I know some people would say I am encouraging these ‘pests’ but I like having them in my garden and it is whole lot more interesting to watch the shenanigans of the birds and the squirrels then stare at my boring lawn and crappy wobbly fence.
