09 September 2024 Blog Post 239 Kitten Biscuits
I have been worried about Jack these past few months as he looks a bit thinner. This may be down to the fact that I managed to remove those great big matts he had on either side of his tummy. I managed to cut them off in the end and it left these rather large bald patches on his flanks unfortunately. The fur is growing back now but with less fur on his sides he looked to me to be thinner. I am probably worrying unnecessarily as I know when Ragdolls have shaved fur (due to matting) you can see their body shape more and it does look leaner than you would expect. They do have a lot of fur that covers their body up usually! Anyway, so I have been looking at his slimmer looking body and worrying he has lost weight. When he was weighed at the vets a few months ago he was about 7kgs and he had lost about a kilo since last year. The vet was not worried. He has always been a slow eater and picky. He does not like the wet food much and only eats a few mouthfuls but he likes his cat biscuits. So my genius idea has been to give him some kitten biscuits which are higher in energy to bulk up his diet. However, the other boys love kitten biscuits (they must be tastier) so I have had to let them have a few too. I only give them a couple of handfuls a day. Charlie and Tom had also lost about a kilo in weight since last year when they were weighed so it probably won’t hurt if they have a few more calories. Leo on the other hand, is big and he was the heaviest, last weight about 8kg. He does not need extra energy but he loves the kitten biscuits! Because of my plan to get some weight gain on Jack, I think I have inadvertently encouraged weight gain in Leo! I don’t think he is overweight yet as you can still feel his spine and ribs et cetera and he is very active and runs around playing or running in the garden. I don’t think the vet would approve of my plan but it is worth a try. Just need to be careful how much kitten biscuits I give them! I won’t admit to the vet about the Dreamies I give them as well…..
