My Little Family
As I write this, Jack is sitting on the table next to my laptop and Tom is on the floor at my feet. I cannot imagine life without them now. They are such great company and I talk to them all the time (no it’s not crazy) and they talk to me back. In fact, verbal communication is so important for Ragdolls as they are such vocal and sensitive cats. If I even spent an hour not saying anything out loud they would start meowing at me as if to say ‘Mum what’s wrong? Why are you so quiet?’
They can definitely sense your feelings as well. When I have bad days or when I am emotional, I have noticed that they get quite stressed and look at me almost fearfully and meow more as they know something is wrong. It’s taught me to be calmer and more measured with my tone of voice when I get frustrated and angry as I know my mood will upset them. Even when I sneeze Jack meows at me as if to say ‘What was that noise, are you ok?’ It’s so cute.
Any change in routine stresses them as well. For example, when my dad came round a few months ago and I spent the morning cooking lunch, baking cookies (badly as it turned out), laying the table and moving all the toys and cat tunnels off the floor. Tom got very upset and was yowling at me as he knew something was different or changing. They do need a lot of reassurance when new things are happening around them.
I like routine and on the whole I pretty much do the same things everyday in the same order and I think ultimately, that is one of the reasons why I get along so well with cats. Of course, not all cat owners have living situations like that but cats are very adaptable and as long as they get used to however you live then they will fit in with you. Ragdolls are definitely people-pleasers and despite their occasional bouts of naughtiness, they will always try and do what you want them to do. Well, Jack and Tom do anyway. I am very lucky in that respect.
Of course probably all hell will break loose when Leo and Charlie arrive!
