Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Two

18th April Blog Post 2

The Meetings on Day 1 

I must admit, I had decided not to bother with the slow introduction approach and just went for it. It is nigh on impossible to keep them all separated anyway as Raggies hate closed doors and Tom and Jack knew there were strangers in the house. 

Charlie and Leo showed no fear and just waltzed up to them. Tom and Jack were quite unnerved. I tried the ‘cornflour’ trick and covered them both in some flour and brushed it into their fur and went back and forth from one cat to the other brushing them. The aim is to get them to all smell the same. Or that’s the idea anyway! I think it worked partially but even I could smell the difference between them (it didn’t help that poor Charlie had some dried poo stuck to his bum, his tail and his paws. I have to give him a thorough cleaning.) 

I gave the new kittens some lunch and Charlie wolfed his food down but Leo did not eat as much. 

They both did wees and squitty poos in their tray (more baby wipes.) Then they spent the rest of the time playing with Tom and Jack’s toys (I did give them some new toys but they had already found plenty of toys laying around!) They love those springer coils and little balls. 

Tom stayed back and observed and occasionally hissed if they came to close. Jack was a bit more upset. Very growly and hissy but not overtly aggressive. I just stayed close watching them ready to intervene but for the most part Jack and Tom tolerated them quite well. 

Charlie and Leo are very confident. They quickly learnt how to get upstairs and had a look around. I haven’t lost them in any small places yet but I have forgotten just how tiny kittens are and I have to be very careful if they get underfoot. They are both very cuddly and purr a lot. Charlie is a little cutie. He likes to lick my face. Leo is a cheeky chap and they love playing.

They settled down a bit in the evening and took a little nap. Then it was dinner time and that is a drama in itself! I hadn’t figured how difficult it would be to feed four cats! Eventually I spread out the bowls with space in between and then put the kittens in front of theirs and then Jack and Tom went to their bowls but there was some swapping around and some hissing. They did all manage to eat though and the kittens ate everything. They like the tinned wet food. Tom and Jack like the kitten biscuits which is going to be a problem if I am not careful! They are high in energy as they are meant for kittens so not really good for Tom and Jack as they are already pretty big (but in a healthy way.)
