My Ragdoll Cat Adnventures Part Three
01 April 2024 Blog Post 197 Charlie!!! Part Two
The second Charlie story happened Thursday morning (early) when we were out in the garden for a walk. It was a bit wet so only Charlie came out to start with. I made myself a cup of tea and I went outside to supervise him. Charlie was sat by the catio staring at something intently but I did not realise what it was at first. Then when I walked over to him I realised there was a strange cat in our garden! I recognized it as the cat the sits in the window of the house next to the house that backs onto mine (who have the annoying dogs). It is a black and white moggie with a collar and I have seen it sat on the windowsill looking out at me and the boys in the morning when we are on our walks. Clearly he became so curious it decided to go into our garden to see for himself. I was not sure what Charlie was going to do. Thankfully the other boys were all sat in the patio doorway and were too scared to venture out. It started raining even more and I was getting wet. I watched the stranger cat and he sprayed up against the fence a couple of times (scent marking). I was thinking of calling Charlie back in as I was a bit worried and then suddenly the stranger cat ran off and jumped up the fence to escape my garden and Charlie when charging after it! I ran as fast as I could and I shouted at him to stop. Then Charlie lept up at the fence and bounced off it landing back on the ground again! The other cat was long gone. I was so relieved! And I did not spill my tea amazingly! Despite my sprint, I was not going to get there in time to grab him so if he had climbed up the fence properly, he would have been off. I think the boys don’t know how to climb a fence as they have never done it before. I have seen Leo jump and bounce off the fence before as well and it is funny (and scary) to watch. I am so glad they don’t know how to climb, although I know it is only a matter of time before they figure it out. Charlie was so distressed about this cat visitor in his territory. He was sniffing the fence where the stranger cat had sprayed. He was very perturbed by it. I did not realise how territorial Ragdolls could be (or Charlie anyway, as the others were not so bothered). I had to stroke him and comfort him as he kept wandering up and down next to the fence crying and looking up. I think he wanted to go find that stranger cat and show him what for! Poor Charlie. He was only defending his territory. As the rain was coming down even more now and we were both drenched and I tried to get him to come in but he went into the catio so I sat with him in there. The rain stopped after about 10 minutes and then the other boys came out to see what was going on. They all had a good sniff of the fence! Later on after the boys had had a good mooch around the garden and Leo had climbed up to the top shelf in the catio (he likes being up high like a lemur), I told them we needed to go in and one by one I managed to get them inside. When I looked out of the patio door afterwards I glanced at the house where that cat is from and there it was back again in the window looking at me smugly! I really hope it does not try that again!
