First Ragdoll Christmas and Birthday

I went a bit overboard I think with their first Christmas. It was such a horrible time for me though so I was trying to cheer myself up by spoiling them.

We were in another wave of Covid, members of my family were poorly with it and we were all still in semi-lockdown (that aspect didn’t bother me much as I like being at home with Jack and Tom anyway.)

I got them an advent calendar (meant for cats of course) with little treats in each doorway up to Christmas day. I bought them loads of presents and they each had their own stocking with their name on it.

To be honest I don’t really like Christmas anyway and try to avoid anything Christmassy as much as possible. I don’t put decorations up as a rule and it did not seem a good idea with too curious Raggies who love to chew things!

It was a nice day, just me and them. I opened all their presents in the morning  (a mixture of cat treats, catnip toys, balls, squeaky mice, wand toys etc.) and they had a good sniff of them all and then proceeded to play in the wrapping paper. I made sure I did not leave any sellotape bits around as Jack had taken a liking to chewing on sellotape. I took lots of pictures and we had a good time playing and cuddling. I think it would have been a thoroughly miserable time if it was not for them.

Their one year birthday in April 2021 was great as well. I got them a card (with a picture of a cat on it of course) and I wrote them a little message which I read out to them. Not sure if they understood what I said but I am sure they got the gist. I had got them one present each (trying not to go too over the top). I got Jack a fluffy toy that looked a bit like a furry worm with a bell inside. He played with it for about five minutes then got bored. I got Tom the well known flippy fish toy and it was so funny. He does get scared of noisy toys in general so he wasn’t sure about it at first. It has catnip in it though so he soon got excited and started picking it up and kicking it about.

The thing drove me nuts later on as the amount of times I had forgotten to turn it off and when you bump into it it starts flipping about!

Jack and Tom did look very different when they were one year old. Their colouring changed as they got older. Tom’s coat got a lot darker as did his face. Jack had more darker shades of grey in his fur. Their coats became longer and more fluffy thus more cat hair in the house but that doesn’t bother me. You get used to it. A small price to pay for having such beautiful cats.
