My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Three

21st June Blog 218 Leaping Leo

Thursday last week Leo made another break for it. We were outside and Leo and Charlie were near that corner of the garden where they like sitting and staring up at the fence. I was nearby eating my yoghurt for breakfast. Leo had his harness and lead on. Sammy the squirrel (yes I have a squirrel that visits my garden regularly and I leave out nuts for him) came running along the fence. Leo saw him and he leapt up at the fence and managed to scramble to the top and I reacted as quickly as possible (without dropping my yoghurt) and I grabbed hold of him around his middle. He was hanging on the fence with his claws dug into the top of the fence. I eventually managed to pull him off and put him back on the ground. He was not happy. It is getting more and more stressful being out with them in the garden. I know I should just put them in the catio and have them secured but I know how much they enjoy wandering about the garden. I don’t want to deny them that. At the moment I am just keeping him as close to me as I can when we are outside and I have his harness and lead on him (although he has wriggled out of the harness before.) Despite the trouble with the temptation of squirrels for Leo, I am enjoying watching them in my garden. I bought some squirrel feeders which I put up where the old bird feeders were and filled them with peanuts. Also it has attracted more birds to the garden such as jackdaws, magpies, stupid pigeons and the black birds. They eat the little bits of nuts Sammy drops on the floor. Gives the boys something to watch from the patio door.
