My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Three

05 July 2024 Blog 222 Brushing

I have used the new expensive show quality brush every day this week and used the new comb a few times. It definitely makes their fur softer and feels more comfortable for them. Tom loves it and rolls onto his back when I brush him so I can brush his tummy, his favourite spot. Leo and Charlie are nonplussed about it but they don’t mind a brush. Leo’s fur is so lovely and soft with no mats at all. Charlie has got one little mat on his back that he always gets in the same spot. You cut if off and then it is grown back again the next month. I have not been able to get all Tom’s mats off yet, only managed to cut out two small ones. He still has a big one on his side. Jack is suffering the most, bless him. He still has two enormous matts one his side. I did manage to get one big one off on Monday after careful combing and pain-staking snipping with the scissors. Thankfully he eventually let me finish cutting it out and now he has got a bald patch! The fur will grow back eventually. But he still has a huge mat on the other side of his tummy which will leave a bald patch if I can get it off. He wouldn’t let me today so will have to leave it for now. Hopefully if I can have another go and bit by bit cut it out (without hurting him!) Poor Jack. He will need to wear a jumper soon with all these bald patches on his sides/tummy. At least now with the new detangling brush/comb I can try to keep on top of the mats from now on and not let them get as bad. It is one of those unexpected problems with Ragdolls (and longhaired cats in general) that you just did not foresee when you got them! I wish I could take them to the lady at the cat show who is a professional groomer, but she lives in Swindon so it’s a bit too far for me!
