My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Three

17th Jan Blog Post 273 Hairball Paste

The other week I noticed Jack was coughing a bit which the boys do now and again I think it is because of hairballs. I used to give them this hairball paste which looked a bit like marmite. But I got out of the habit of it as the boys were not very keen on it. I thought it might be a good idea to try it out again to see if it helps with their hairballs. So I bought some on Amazon. When it arrived I gave Tom, Leo and Charlie some. Tom was very suspicious at first but then licked it gingerly. Leo and Charlie licked it eventually but they did not seem to like it very much. Then I tried to get Jack to try some. He was not having any of it. He went and hid under the table and even though I was being very gentle and not forceful he would not come near me. He eventually got fed up with me offering him my hairball paste finger, he went and hid upstairs under the bed. I think because of the medications I have had to give Jack in the past for his bowels and when he had that hypersalivation episode et cetera, he now does not trust me with any new ‘paste’, only Dreamies. So I put a little bit on a Dreamie later on when it was Dreamie’s time I gave him the doctored one. He did not eat it, surprise surprise! Then I thought the only other thing I could try was putting it in his Sheba fish flakes when I gave them their dinner. I tried my best to mix it up in the Sheba but unfortunately the paste does not mix well with fish. I gave him the bowl and I knew it was a failure! He sniffed it, licked it and then walked off. Even the other boys wouldn’t eat it! I have given up with the hairball paste for nowl Although I might try again with the other boys. Jack was coughing up a hairball last week and I said to him it’s his own fault as he should have taken the hairball paste!
