My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Two

25th Aug Blog Post 141 Dogs

The thursday cat walk was a bit stressful! My neighbours behind me who are also up early sometimes, had let their two dogs out in the garden and they were wandering about and sniffing at the fence. Normally the boys go inside if they hear them but they must have been feeling brave that morning. Tom and Jack stayed nearer the house but Leo and Charlie showing no fear were up against the fence and peeping through the gaps trying to see the dogs. I was watching wondering what was going to happen. For the first five minutes nothing much happened and the dogs were not barking. I was surprised. Charlie and Leo were very curious and kept running up and down along the fence line as if trying to get to the dogs!

I turned away for a moment to check on Jack and Tom. The next moment I heard this scuffle noise and then Charlie went running across the garden at top speed towards the patio door his (retractable) lead trailing after him. I tried to grab the lead but missed it and the plastic bit hit me on the ankle as he went past. Tom having seen Charlie’s panic also decided he was scared and he ran into the house as well with his lead trialling behind him. The was a lot of clatter and they managed to knock over their dry food bowls and biscuits went all over the place and they knocked over a plastic crate that was in the hall! I went running after them and found Charlie at the top of the stairs looking very frightened so I took his lead off and then I found Tom in the wardrobe in the spare room (with the lead stuck in the bannisters) with big wide eyes and looking terrified. I reassured him and took his lead off. At least there was no damage done.

The dogs were barking now and this being 6.30AM I was worried I had woken everyone up but their dogs often bark in the morning anyway so that was nothing new.

When I got back to the kitchen Jack had also come in and Leo was still sitting on the grass looking a bit bemused at the proceedings! It is funny how he seems to be the braver one now who does not let the dogs bother him.

I think what happened was when Charlie was nose up against the fence, as there are little gaps along it I think the dogs must have put their noses up against the fence too and then Charlie got a nasty shock when he realised how close they were to him! I think Charlie will be a bit more careful now in the future when those dogs are out and maybe not get quite so close to the fence! Boyfriend said he is going to think of something to block up the gaps with if possible as he does not like my babies being scared by those annoying dogs!
