My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Two

Blog Post 37 19th Aug The Vets

Charlie and Leo had their neutering operation on 4th Aug. I was dreading it. As an anxious cat mummy I was worried about the surgery even though it is minor. I don’t want my babies to be uncomfortable or in pain. The other thing was I couldn’t feed them that morning, and I know how much they love their food! It meant I couldn’t feed Jack and Tom either, as there is no way I could have fed one pair and not the other pair. So I have to face four hungry Ragdoll cats that morning. The appointment was at 9 am. I was up early as usual and tried to explain to them. They were looking sadly at the empty space on the food mat. I had taken away their dried food bowls the evening before so they couldn’t snack during the night. I did not eat my breakfast in front of them as that felt mean. So I just had a cup of tea and went into the office for a bit to avoid their sad looks. Then at 8.30 am, I got Leo and Charlie into their carriers and put them in the car. Then I quickly chucked some biscuits into their bowls for Tom and Jack, said bye, and went off to the vet. They cried all the way there. Once we were in the waiting room, they were okay. A lovely vet nurse saw us and went through the pre-op stuff. She weighed them, and Leo is 4.7kg, and Charlie is 5.3kg (he has put on 1.3kg since May!) I then said goodbye and spent the rest of the day worrying. I rang the vets in the afternoon, and they said it all went ok (relief), and then I picked them up at 5 pm. They looked ever so dopey and wide-eyed! Bless. Their bums were all soggy, smelled of disinfectant, and had cat litter stuck to their fur, so they had to give a gentle clean. Thankfully, Tom and Jack did not hiss at them as I thought they might have due to the vet smell. By tea time, they were fine and starving. The next day poor Leo threw up a couple of times, I think the anesthetic or the pain killers made him nauseous, but he was alright by the evening. They were pretty perky, and the ordeal seemed to have been forgotten about.

Phew, I am glad that is over.
