My Ragdoll Cat Adventures Part Two

30 June Blog Post 125 Bee Sting

A little dramatic Wednesday morning this week. I was out with the boys on the morning walk in the garden. I take my eyes off them for a second and I hear a squeal. I look over and Charlie is rubbing his face and then staring at something on the ground. I run over and look and it is a bumble bee! Poor thing. I think Charlie tried to eat it and then got stung on the lip! His lip was already starting to swell a bit. I was panicking a little. I had visions of anaphylactic shock. Charlie was not giving up on trying to eat the bee though and he kept pawing at it! Leo and Tom came over to have a look as well. I was trying to protect the bee and them from stings. I managed to carefully scoop up the bee on a tissue and then chuck it over the gate. I was hoping it would survive. Then I checked on Charlie and he was looking a bit sorry for himself. (see video just after it happened.) I googled ‘bee sting in cats’ and it said to use bicarbonate or salt water on the sting which I did (Charlie did not like that) and then monitor him for 24 hours in case the swelling got worse. I was going to go into the office at work but I told them I was going to work from home so I could keep an eye on him. I must admit Charlie is a tough guy. He was right as rain about two hours later and the swelling had gone down so phew! I bet he has not learned his lesson and would do it again tomorrow!

Also, on the walk, Jack was playing with the new homemade bird bath I put on the patio last weekend. The birds haven’t actually used it yet!
