The Next Few Days

The next few days were definitely difficult and a bit draining but slowly and surely Jack and Tom got more and more used to Leo and Charlie. The hissing and growling died down by the third day and by day four, harmony! Just about.

The smell issue I think had faded by day two but I think the biggest problem was jealousy. I tried to make sure I spent some time with each of them in turn, such as grooming them one at a time and playing with them one at a time. However, that doesn’t really work because wherever I go and whatever I do, they all follow. If I try to groom Tom and Jack then Leo and Charlie will want to join in. If a cuddle one then they all want cuddles which is fine but I feel bad for Jack and Tom when they just want some one-on-one time with me and the babies push their way in!

Distracting them all with play time worked well though. The kittens have so much energy they will run around and chase the toys and each other. Jack and Tom were being grumpy and trying not to enjoy themselves as that meant giving in but they started to play with them too. If they got too close though there would still be some hissing and growling. Leo and Charlie hissed back a few times as they refused to be intimidated. I felt a bit sorry for the babies as all they wanted was to play with the big boys but Jack and Tom were having none of it initially. Over time this changed thankfully.
